Zombie VS Japanese kids – Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween,I have never been much of a Halloween person, something about a day for the dead doesn’t go down too well for a wuss like me who is still having nightmares from that skin ripping scene in the Silent Hill movie not too long ago. Jamaicans are also largely a superstitious bunch, well at least the older folks are as the younger peeps continue to absorb American culture.

Halloween Costumes 2011

Halloween Costumes 2011: With three kids, I learned the best time to go shopping for Halloween costumes on the day after Halloween. This is a good time to buy things like makeup, wigs, hats and accessories. All of these things does not affect the size of the person wearing it. You can buy it very cheap by almost 80% to 90% off the regular price. It’s things as well, that will not go bad until next Halloween. Just put aside in a box that says Halloween costumes and set aside for next year.

You’ll see when next year comes and you do not have to pay big money for these things, you’ve saved a lot of money. You can also use items you have purchased a few things around the house, and then you have your own original Halloween costume. You can not beat that then you will have more money to buy candy.

Batman & Joker Halloween Costume Ideas

Batman & Joker Halloween Costume Ideas

Lately I have been sort of obsessed with “Vintage Halloween Photos” featuring kids or adults dressed-up as their favorite Batman characters. I don’t know, since the holiday is coming up I thought it would be an interesting idea. Anyway, I have been asking readers to send in their photos & the response has been wonderful! I have a lot of them so far but want even more so if you have some cool pics like this then please send them in. Now, to talk about these 2 photos. The 1st one is a friend named John. I met him at MySpace & he’s a pretty cool guy. Last year he dressed-up as the Joker ( The Dark Knight movie version ) for Halloween with this awesome costume he made hunting through Thrift Stores. His Joker make-up & green hair look great too. The next photo, with Batman, is our friend Christopher. I kinda-sorta know him over at Facebook. He was kind enough to send this very cool photo of him dressed in his “1989 Batman Movie” costume. He says he wears it sometimes to charity events to help raise money for certain causes. Wow, that’s really really awesome! I love when people do that. When people think about others in need instead of their own BS then it’s a big step towards making the world a better place. Thanks to both John & Chris for sharing these 2 “Joker & Batman” Halloween Costume photos…you both ROCK!

History of Halloween costumes

Although Halloween is often claimed to be a cultural descendant of the Celtic festival of Samhain, such claims are generally not considered either historically accurate or scholarly.[4] In particular, the custom of dressing up in costumes and going “guising” or trick-or-treating at Halloween developed from Christian customs created in Western Europea around the 15th century.[5] Guising at Halloween in Scotland is recorded in 1895, where masqueraders in disguise carrying lanterns made out of scooped out turnips, visit homes to be rewarded with cakes, fruit and money.[2] The practise of Guising at Halloween in North America is first recorded in 1911, where a newspaper in Kingston, Ontario reported children going “guising” around the neighborhood.[6]

The holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day were often celebrated with costume parades, wild parties, and licentiousness of all sorts.[7] In the 18th century in the United Kingdom, Halloween was celebrated in rural areas by farmers as a fertility rite, while in cities it had a Carnival-like atmosphere.[7] But as Halloween was transported to the United States by waves of European immigrants,[8] the licentious and rowdy elements of Halloween were domesticated to conform with the emerging Victorian era morality. Halloween was made into a private rather than public holiday, celebrations involving liquor and sensuality de-emphasized, and only children were expected to celebrate the festival.[9]

While wearing costumes at Halloween is recorded in Scotland in 1895, there is little evidence of costumes in England, Ireland, or the United States prior to 1900, however.[3] Early Halloween costumes emphasized the pagan and gothic nature of Halloween, and were aimed primarily at children. Costumes were also made at home, or using items (such as make-up) which could be purchased and utilized to create a costume. But in the 1930s, A.S. Fishbach, Ben Cooper, Inc., and other firms began mass-producing Halloween costumes for sale in stores as trick-or-treating became popular in North America.

Halloween costumes are often designed to imitate supernatural and scary beings. Costumes are traditionally those of monsters such as vampires, ghosts,[10] skeletons, witches, and devils, or in more recent years such science fiction-inspired characters as aliens and superheroes. There are also costumes of pop culture figures like presidents, athletes, celebrities, or film and television characters. Another popular trend is for women (and in some cases, men) to use Halloween as an excuse to wear sexy or revealing costumes, showing off more skin than would be socially acceptable otherwise. Young girls also often dress as entirely non-scary characters at Halloween, including princesses, fairies, angels, farm animals and flowers.

Halloween costume parties generally fall on or around October 31, often falling on the Friday or Saturday prior to Halloween.
